The final gameweek of the first half of Premier League 2016/17 ended up being one of the most goal-scoring weeks for almost all the teams.
For three days leading up to the new year, the Premier League outfits locked horns against each other, and only four teams managed to hold on to clean sheets. In total, as many as 33 goals were scored in gameweek 19, and only three games involved less than three goals. Let us now take a look at the four best goals from this Premier League weekend.
(4) Willian (Chelsea) vs Stoke City:
The Blues continued their winning momentum and have now reached the Premier League record of emerging victorious in 13 consecutive games. In this win against Stoke City, Willian was the standout performer, scoring a brace to give his team the lead twice. And the Brazillian’s first goal is our first pick in this list. This was a nice buildup from the Chelsea players. Victor Moses worked out nicely on the right side of the box and fooled the opponent defenders, before teeing up Eden Hazard with a delicious pass. Unselfish as ever, Hazard pushed the ball to Willian who then converted it brilliantly to the left bottom of the goal. Chelsea went up 2-1 with this strike and ended up winning the fixture 4-2.
(3) Jermain Defoe (Sunderland) vs Burnley:
This goal was not as important as the other ones, but it deserves some accolades. Much like the previous pick, this Jermain Defoe goal was the result of a magnificent display of skills in the midfield. Adnan Januzaj went past the challenges of three Burnley players before sending out an extraordinary ball to Defoe on the right hand side of the box. The Sunderland striker, a great poacher as ever, collected the ball nicely before taking a strike to send it home. However, with Burnley already leading 4-0, it did little to reduce the misery of the away side.
In the following video, watch from 4:11 to the end, and see how perfect the buildup to this goal has been.
(2) Robert Snodgrass (Hull City) vs Everton:
Not only this was a brilliant strike, but it was extremely important too. In the curtain raiser of Premier League gameweek 19, Hull City and Everton squared up at KCOM Stadium. The two sides were locked level at 1-1 when this happened. Hull got a freekick a few yards outside the box, and Snodgrass was in position to take it, as always. And within seconds, the midfielder’s extraordinary curling shot found its place in the back of the nets. Although Joel Robles got a touch to it, it was impossible for him to stop it from going past and Hull were leading 2-1. Unfortunately though, they ended up sharing points with the Toffees as Ross Barkley scored towards the fag end of the game.
(1) Olivier Giroud (Arsenal) vs Crystal Palace:
Well, it is already being stated that this would end up being the Best Goal of this Premier League season. The Frenchman has often been criticized for his lack of consistency, but his scorpion kick was enough to shut the mouth of his haters. With the score at level, Giroud’s amazing goal gave his team a welcome lead and the team managed to get three points in the end.
So far as the goal is concerned, one would have to watch it to understand how great it was!
