Premier League table toppers Chelsea FC are interested in signing Southampton FC defender Virjil Van Dijk. The Blues are preparing to spend a total of £60m on the Dutch defender.
According to reports given by the Sunday Express Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has made the Saints defender his top January transfer target. The Dutch international has impressed a lot this season and as a center back he has also created a total of five chances this season. On the other hand, he scored one goal in Southampton’s 1-0 win over Everton earlier in the season.
Fellow Premier League clubs Liverpool FC and Manchester United are also interested in signing Van Dijk. But the Sunday Express has confirmed that it is Manchester City whom Chelsea are trying to beat in order to sign the former Celtic FC defender.
With John Terry on his way out of the team, Italian manager Antonio Conte is looking for a new center back to cope up with his 3-4-3 formation. Conte tried to lure in Kaildou Koulibaly from SSC Napoli and has also tried to reunite with Juventus defender Antonio Bonnuci, when he attempted to sign both of them in August. However, after failing to sign any of the two Serie A defenders Conte decided to bring back David Luiz from the French Champions, Paris Saint Germain. The Brazilian has been phenomenal in the central back position for Chelsea.
Merseyside club Everton FC are also interested in bringing in Van Dijk to Goodison Park, Toffees boss Ronald Koeman is willing to sign the Dutch defender for a total of £50million. Koeman has told billionaire Farhad Moshiri who owns 49.9% stake of the club, that Van Dijk is Koeman’s prime target in the January transfer window.
