Badminton has undoubtedly taken the spot of the second most popular sport in India, right after Cricket. Following the recent successes of Saina Nehwal, K Srikkanth and the silver girl PV Sindhu, the hosts of Premier Badminton League (PBL) are hopeful that the tournament will be a huge success this year.

And this time, on the very first day of the new year, PBL is going to kick off in fashion, with the super-hyped fixture of PV Sindhu vs Carolina Marin – a rivalry the badminton lovers would remember for a long time.

Only a few months ago, the two shuttlers locked horns in the final of the Olympics. It ended up being one of the most scintillating games of the year, as both showed their prowess, skills and an indomitable spirit throughout the clash. In the end, Marin got the better of Sindhu and went on the podium to win the gold medal. The Indian had to be satisfied with the silver, but then she took a sweet revenge last month, when she beat the Spaniard in the Dubai World Super Series. Overall, Marin leads the head to head record by a margin of 5-4 and without a shred of doubt, the Indian glamour girl would look forward to draw level at Hyderabad tonight.

New rules:

The PBL 2017 will be played under new set of rules. Instead of usual 21 points, it will be a three-set game of 11 points each. While it will require some adjustments to the gameplay, the two players are up for the challenge. PV Sindhu shared his opinions about the new rules, “There would not be much time to think in the 11-point game format. So, every point is important. Every team is equally tough. So, it depends on who plays better on that day.”

Time and Venue:

The PBL 2017 will start on Sunday, January 1 from 6:30pm IST. After the initial build-up, the match will commence at 7 PM. The first match, of Chennai Smashers vs Hyderabad Hunters, will be between PV Sindhu and Carolina Marin. The second match will be between Bengaluru Blasters and Delhi Acers and it will start at 8:30 PM. All opening matches are set to be played in Hyderabad. It will be interesting to see if Marin gets more home support than Sindhu who will be playing for the Chennai franchise.

TV Guide:

The clash will be telecast live telecast on Star Sports 1  and 3 and on Star Sports 1 HD and Star Sports 3 HD. It will also be live streamed online at HotStar.
