Fantasy Premier League : Tips, suggestions and injury updates before gameweek 19

The last gameweek of the first half of the Premier League season is only a day away.

The third gameweek in ten days will commence this Friday, and as the new year progresses, the Fantasy Premier League managers will hope for a better second half of the Premier League 2016/17 season.

This weekend, the biggest attraction is going to be the clash of Liverpool and Manchester City. Both teams have been in fine form and the result of this game may affect the league table in a significant way. Elsewhere, Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham and Arsenal have easier fixtures and should not have trouble continuing their winning momentum. The complete set of matches is given below.

Injury Updates:

Everton custodian Maarten Stekelenburg suffered a leg injury a week ago and had to be substituted midway during a match. He will not be able to return before mid January, and Joel Robles will stand between the sticks on Friday. Sunderland’s shot-stopper Jordan Pickford is also doubtful against Burnley. He has been in a terrific form, making maximum number of saves per minute; and his presence would be important for the Black Cats.

Long term injured players Shkodran Mustafi, James Tomkins and Luke Shaw are still unavailable. Joel Matip and Toby Alderweireld are not yet match fit, but the latter might feature this weekend, especially considering that Spurs duo Jan Vertonghen and Kyle Walker will be suspended for a match. In addition, Damien Delaney and Antonio Barraghan will also have to serve a one-match suspension. Manchester United’s Eric Bailly will be fit, but chances are high that he will start from the bench.

Southampton reliable Nathan Redmond (red card) and rejuvenated Chelsea midfielder Pedro (fifth yellow card) started last week, but the Fantasy Premier League managers still having them would have to do without them this gameweek. Theo Walcott has a calf injury and had to sit the last game out. He may miss another match as well. Another Arsenal player Alex Oxlade Chamberlain also has a muscle injury. In addition, Philippe Coutinho, Jamie Vardy (suspended due to red card), Charlie Austin and Yannick Bolasie are still out, but the Liverpool man has returned to training and should be match fit soon. And finally, 39.5% Fantasy Premier League managers would be ecstatic to have Diego Costa back from his suspension.

Tips and Suggestions:

The good news is that the second Fantasy Premier League wildcard will be available right after this gameweek. Considering the fixtures, it would be a good idea to get as many players as possible from Arsenal and Manchester United. In particular, Alexis Sanchez, Hector Bellerin, David De Gea, Antonio Valencia or Zlatan Ibrahimovic are the top choices.

On the other hand, Chelsea, Tottenham and Liverpool have some tough matches over the next few weeks, and only the Blues have shown defensive prowess in recent times. But, in form attackers like Costa, Delle Alli, Christian Eriksen, Harry Kane, Adam Lallana or Sadio Mane deserve to be picked up in the Fantasy Premier League squad.

Among the minnows, West Ham, West Bromwich and Burnley players would provide ample budget options to adjust the squad and to rack up a lot of points in coming weeks.

Fantasy Premier League captain:

We would recommend Costa, Ibrahimovic or Romelu Lukaku as the top options.
