Italian champions Juventus are once again interested in signing Belgian international Axel Witsel from Russian giants Zenit Saint Petersburg, as confirmed by Juve director Giuseppe Marotta. The Italian club approached the five time Russian Premier League champions last year but an agreement was not found that time.

Marotta recently told Radio Uno that: “Witsel is an opportunity, his contract is ending in June, and we have been in touch with Zenit to see if we can buy him in January.”

With Witsel entering into the last six months of his Zenit contract a transfer move to Juve remains as a liable option.

The Belgian star joined Zenit back in 2012 after playing one year for SL Benfica, played a total of 121 matches for The Blue White Sky Blues and has scored 16 goals over the course of these four years.

The offer for Witsel is rumored to be around €6 million.

Premier League clubs Everton FC and Chelsea FC are also interested in signing the former Standard Liege midfielder. Everton have offered Zenit a bid of £28.5million as Everton manager Ronald Koeman is trying to target a new look midfield. Koeman has been trying to beat fellow Premier League manager Mark Hughes at Stoke City and Italian club Napoli in signing the 27 year old Zenit star. Everton are willing to pay Witsel £100,000 per week and a total of £6.24million per year at Goodison park.

Premier League table toppers Chelsea FC are also trying to lure in Witsel to Stamford Bridge, in order to replace Brazilian star Oscar who is on his way out of West London and on the verge of joining Chinese club Shanghai SIPG on a mega money transfer.

However, according to Tuttosport Witsel has no interest in joining The Blues, thus leaving a huge gap in Chelsea’s star studded midfield.

Witsel to Juventus is almost a done deal now and he isn’t the only player The Old Lady are targeting with Juve director Marotta confirming that the club is also interested in signing Rodrigo Bentancur from Boca Juniors
