VIDEO : Everton vs Liverpool Highlights, Match Stats and Review

Thanks to a stoppage time goal from Sadio Mane, Liverpool managed to win against Everton.

After a 0-3 away victory over Middlesbrough, Jurgen Klopp’s men headed for a Merseyside derby against neighbors Everton at Goodison Park on a Monday night fixture.

Everton, who defeated Arsenal midweek, were rejuvenated once again and the Toffees boss Ronald Koeman was on a mission to change his side’s poor run of form against Liverpool. The Reds, on the other hand, had to win the fixture in order to be in the title race and concrete their top four hopes as the likes of Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have won this weekend and minimized the gap.

The first half was competitive yet less productive as both sides failed to involve their forwards into the game. Divock Origi had a chance to break the deadlock but he skied his effort.

The Reds started the second half brightly and it was Roberto Firmino who had the first real clear cut opportunity. But, he could not beat past custodian Stekelenburg in one-to-one situation and thus failed to alter the scoreline. It was clearly not Firmino’s day as his effort was marvelously denied by substitute goalkeeper Joel Robles.

Liverpool finally broke the deadlock at injury time when Daniel Sturridge’s effort struck the post and Sadio Mane chased it to finish into the back of the net from rebound. Firmino was once again denied from goal-line by Coleman, however, the Reds managed hold their lead for last few minutes and grabbed a massive win on 227th Merseyside derby.
