The last game of Premier League Saturday – West Brom vs Manchester United – ended up being an exhilarating fixture as the visitors finished with three points in the bag.
Jose Mourinho chose to start with Jesse Lingard ahead of Juan Mata in the right flank, while Antonio Valencia returned to the first eleven after missing the last game. And these two changes were in business very early in the game. At the stroke of fifth minute, Valencia set Lingard up with a long ball. The Englishman collected it beautifully and floated in a terrific cross for Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The former PSG man made no mistake to head it home and the visiting team took a welcome lead.
About fifteen minutes later, Wayne Rooney was in the middle of another brilliant attack from the away side. From right outside the box, the United captain took a scorching shot, but West Brom custodian Ben Foster managed to parry it away. The ball hit the post on its way out and the Baggies saved the scare. The home side, on the other hand, made a few decent chances inside the first half; but the efforts were not too strong to test David De Gea. And after some end to end football from the two sides, the scoreline remained 0-1 at the break.
The second half started on a same spirit as the first, and it was evenly matched until the 55th minute. It was Zlatan magic once again that brought life to an otherwise moribund game. The charismatic striker cut beautifully inside from the left side and took a low strike to defeat Foster in the far post. The Red Devils doubled the lead with this goal and entered the final half an hour to finish it on a happy note.
Later in the second half, both managers brought in some changes. The players continued attacks and counter attacks to both ends, but no one could hit the nets. And the match ended in a 2-0 win for the Red Devils. They are still in the sixth spot, but will feel more confident after this win, a consecutive third one in the league.
