Transfer: Arsenal in talks to sign young Goalkeeper in January

Arsenal have reportedly opened talks with Dutch side AZ Alkmaar over a potential move for 16-year-old promising goalkeeper Jasper Schendelaar.

According to reports of Italian outlet Tutto Mercato Web, Arsenal have reached AZ Alkmaar in an offer to lure the player away from the club, with the report asserting an agreement, could be struck before the next transfer window. It is understood that the player could be prized away from the club for a mere fee in the region of £2m which Arsenal are happy to pay.

The AZ Alkmaar goalkeeper has yet to show up for the Dutch side however, all the coaches expect the 16-year-old to climb to the very top in future. Some eyewitnesses also claimed Schendelaar can possibly turn into Holland’s best goalkeeper since Edwin van der Sar.

Arsenal already have the likes of Petr Cech, David Ospina and Emiliano Martinez on their books as choices for the goalkeeping positions. However, with Petr Cech is ageing and Ospina is unhappy at the club with the lack of game times, the only option could leave for Wenger is Emiliano Martinez who recently signed a new contract at the club.

Arsenal have been busy searching for a new youth keeper signing in recent months and if the reports are believed to be true then the young dutch keeper will soon join the London based side in the next transfer window who is contracted to the Eredivisie outfit until the summer of 2019. It’s pretty clear that the youngster wouldn’t be challenging for a first team spot anytime soon if he did join Arsenal however with the signing of Schendelaar, Arsenal could see him as an option for the future who will step up when the right time will come. Wenger is famous for bringing young players and nurturing the best out of them and the same could happen with Jasper if the move materialise.
