Fantasy Premier League : Injury updates, tips and suggestions before gameweek 17

December has always been the busiest period for the Fantasy Premier League managers.

Three gameweeks within a span of 10 days is challenging not only for the players, but for the Fantasy Premier League managers as well. And so, special care and thoughts should be spared while choosing your team for the upcoming gameweek.

On Sunday, Arsenal and Manchester City will lock horns in the most scintillating fixture of the week and it can be pivotal to shape the league table before Christmas. Among others, Chelsea, Southampton and Manchester United will take testing trips to Crystal Palace, Bournemouth and West Bromwich, respectively. In form Tottenham will look forward to ease past Burnley while Everton and Liverpool would square off at Goodison Park to draw curtains to the week.

Injury updates:

Kasper Schmeichel is still recovering from his long term injury and might feature in the first eleven only during the next gameweek. On the other hand, high flying West Bromwich will be boosted by the return of Craig Dawson. So far as their opponents Manchester United are concerned, they will also be happy to welcome Antonio Valencia back, but Eric Bailly might miss yet another game after sustaining an injury against Crystal Palace. Danny Simpson and Jason Puncheon will also return to the starting eleven after serving one match suspension.

The only other significant absentees in the back are going to be Shkodran Mustafi, James Tomkins, George Friend, Luke Shaw and Phil Jagielka. Johnny Evans, Joel Matip and Cedric Soares missed their last outings and are still not fully fit. Decisions will be made only before the kickoff, and while we suggest not selling them right away, it might be wise to keep them on your bench.

Charlie Austin, Philippe Coutinho, Junior Stanislas, Santi Cazorla and Yannick Bolasie are suffering from major injuries and they are not going to come back anytime soon. If you still have any of them in your Fantasy Premier League team, do not think twice before choosing a replacement. Reports also suggest that Ilkay Gundogan has got a terrible ACL injury that can rule him out for a long period. On the other hand, Callum Wilson and Divock Origi are not 100% fit at the moment, however, speculations are high that the latter would be available against Everton on Monday to continue his blistering form from last week.

And finally, tensions are high about the unavailability of Eden Hazard who was not in the Chelsea squad in the last game. In a recent interview, Antonio Conte revealed that the Belgian’s injury is not serious. However, the boss might give the star a break, as the Blues will play early on Saturday and an aggravated injury would only worsen the club’s chances of securing the top spot at the Christmas.

Fantasy Premier League tips and suggestions:

As we suggested last week, players from Chelsea, Tottenham, Manchester United, Crystal Palace and Swansea City will provide you ample options to adjust your budget and increase chances to rack up a lot of Fantasy Premier League points. Christian Eriksen, Wilfred Zaha, Diego Costa, Kyle Walker, Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are in red hot form and they should be aiming for more goals and assists in the coming week. Among others, Christian Benteke, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Fernando Llorente, Harry Kane, Toby Alderweireld, Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso should be the crucial men to target.

Liverpool’s inspiring run has certainly taken a hit since Coutinho’s injury, albeit they managed three points against Middlesbrough after a loss and a draw against Bournemouth and West Ham. They will have difficult fixtures in the coming weeks, and so, except for Adam Lallana, Sadio Mane and Divock Origi, we would suggest buying no other player from the Reds. Manchester City have also bounced back to winning ways after back to back losses against Chelsea and Leicester City. However, they will play against Arsenal and Liverpool in the next three weeks and will have to do without talismanic striker Sergio Aguero. Naturally, if you want, Kevin De Bruyne is the only one to include in your Fantasy Premier League team.

On a different note, Southampton defenders, in spite of languishing at the ninth spot in the table, can boast of getting four clean sheets out of last five games. Therefore, Jose Fonte and Virgil Van Dijk can be valuable picks these days.

So far as the minnows are concerned, West Bromwich, West Ham, Stoke City and Bournemouth have shown good form of late. Salomon Rondon, Matt Phillips and Chris Brunt are the in form options from the Baggies. Brunt, in particular, is an attractive option as he, despite being a defender, often plays in an advanced midfielder’s position, and so grabs points from both ends of the pitch. One can find other budget friendly options in Winston Reid, Eric Pieters, Benik Afobe, Adam Smith and Michail Antonio.

Fantasy Premier League captain:

Tottenham or Chelsea players should be the best choices for this week. Eriksen, Harry Kane or Diego Costa will be our primary recommendations. Ibrahimovic, Walker or Lallana can also be picked, keeping their forms in mind.
