Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek could leave the club in January for their Premier League rivals West Ham United in the next transfer window.
Since the change of formation of Antonio Conte’s 3-4-3, The 20-year-old has appeared only three circumstances in all competitions for Chelsea this season and an absence of game time has thrown uncertainty over his long-term future at the club. The formation only allows 2 central midfielders, that indicates that Ruben has to compete with N’golo Kante, Nemanja Matic, Cesc Fabregas and another academy youngster Nathaniel Chalobah for starting role in the squad.
And now according to reports, West Ham United have reportedly opened talks with Chelsea for the English midfielder in January. The type of the move remains speculative, but it is likely that West Ham will try to drive the player on loan for the rest of the season and could make the move permanent in the next season.
The Chelsea boss has conceded that he can simply rely on Ruben Loftus-Cheek when called upon and believes that the 20-year-old has good potential. but, also implied that the Chelsea midfielder could soon be loaned out for more game time.
‘For now he(Loftus-Cheek) is in our squad, but this season he has had a few injuries,’ Conte said on Tuesday at the press conference ahead of their match against Sunderland.
‘There is a moment when I speak with my club and make the best decision. I think Ruben has good potential.’
‘He has great potential, it’s important to show this in order to improve. I count on him,’ he added.
West Ham struggling for points this season and are now currently at the 17th position in the table, just one point above the relegation zone. A move for the English midfielder could be good for the young Englishman as their midfielders are struggling with frequent injuries and have failed to perform up to the mark this season which could provide him ample game time to impress the current Chelsea boss.
