One of the midweek’s interesting fixtures is the clash of Crystal Palace vs Manchester United, where an in form goal-scoring team would welcome an inconsistent side of the league; and a win would help both the teams climb up the ladder.
Manchester United managed to scrape away with a narrow win in their last outing against Tottenham. Following three consecutive 1-1 draws, it was necessary for the Red Devils to bounce back to winning ways and thanks to a welcome strike from Henrikh Mkhitaryan, they snatched away three points at Old Trafford.
The Eagles, on the other hand, have netted 10 goals in their last three games, but won only one of them. The fledgling defense would find it hard to deal with the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Anthony Martial and Juan Mata. However, former Manchester United man Wilfred Zaha and in form striker Christian Benteke will look forward to continue their red hot form and should they be able to beat David De Gea, Palace might find a win in this home game.
Crystal Palace vs Manchester United team news:
Steve Mandanda, Connor Wickham and Loic Remy continue to be unavailable. In addition, the home side will also miss the services of Jason Puncheon, who is suspended for one game, following his fifth yellow card of the season. Yohan Cabaye is expected to take his place in the attacking midfielder’s position. James Tomkins is also not yet fit, but chances are high he would start in the right back. In case he does not come around before the kick off, Kelly would feature in that position. The rest of the team should be same as what Alan Pardew fielded in the 3-3 thriller against Hull City last week.
Jose Mourinho will be unhappy to miss Antonio Valencia, who has been one of the best United players this season. The Ecuadorian has been showed his fifth yellow card and is not traveling with the team to Selhurst Park. Matteo Darmian should play in the right back while Marcos Rojo may be deployed in the left flank. And in that case, Eric Bailly may have a chance to start a game after a long time. Last week’s hero Mkhitaryan, who scored against Zorya and Tottenham, has an ankle injury and Juan Mata should be the one to replace him in the right wing.
Here is the predicted lineup for the side:
Key players: Zaha has scored 2 goals and assisted 7 more in his last seven games. Benteke has been an able partner to him, scoring 5 and assisting 1 in his last five games. These two will be key to success for the Eagles.
United will be relying on the charismatic striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic to break the deadlock early in the game. Paul Pogba’s work rate, Anthony Martial’s quick runs down the left flank and Mata’s inch perfect passes and finishing will also be important for the away side.
