This fixture, the penultimate one of the Premier League gameweek 15, was extremely crucial for both the teams. In the end, the home side had the last laugh as Manchester United vs Tottenham finished with a scoreline of 1-0.
As we predicted before the start of the match, Toby Alderweireld was a welcome addition to the Tottenham starting lineup after a long gap while Jose Mourinho handed Henrikh Mkhitaryan a chance to prove his worth in the right wing. The latter showed immediate impact, as early as in the second minute. A nice work from Mkhitaryan found Zlatan Ibrahimovic who subsequently set Paul Pogba up for a strike. However, Hugo Lloris got the better of the Frenchman in this occasion.
Both teams created a few chances in the first quarter. David De Gea had to parry a brilliant Christian Eriksen effort while Anthony Martial and Ibrahimovic repeatedly combined well to disturb the Tottenham defense. And then, at the stroke of 29th minute, Mkhitaryan opened the scoring for the home side. Ander Herrera snatch the ball in the midfield and then sent out a lovely pass to the Armenian. He made no mistake to take it to his feet and clobber a powerful strike to the top of the net.
Later into the half, Ibrahimovic and Heung Min Son both tried their lucks on either ends of the pitch, but the respective goalkeepers managed to make the necessary saves. And the first half of this important Manchester United vs Tottenham clash ended 1-0 in favour of the Red Devils.
Early in the second half, Victor Wanyama missed a sitter to lose the opportunity to equalize. Minutes later, Pogba hit the woodwork with a scorching free-kick, and then the Frenchman tested Lloris once again with a thunderous strike. Unfortunately for the midfielder, he could not find the back of the nets on either occasion.
The last quarter of the match was mostly evenly matched. Both sides tried utmost to break the opponent resistance, but no one succeeded. In the end, the scintillating game ended in a very important win for United.
