A harmonious Arsenal overturned an early goal to register a 3-1 victory against Stoke and move to the top of the table with the win. Theo Walcott, Mesut Ozil and substitute Alex Iwobi scored in the win on a wet night at the Emirates.

The Gunners were good in the early moments and were gifted by some lapses from Stoke players which they couldn’t convert, but overall the home side was much better and had the majority of the possession.

Stoke on the other hand had glimpses of their latest attacking flavour and got an unexpected lead from Charlie Adam as he converted from the spot. The penalty resulted from a Granit Xhaka foul on Joe Allen in the area. Mustafi also had to go off due to a hamstring problem and the German was replaced by returning Hector Bellerin.

The Gunners stepped up and equalized before the break through Walcott, who scored his 100th goal for the club. After the break, Arsenal were the better team and got their lead through Mesut Ozil who lobbed his header over the Potters keeper. Crouch had an opportunity saved by Cech and then Iwobi scored a beautiful goal to wrap up the game for the home side.

With this important win, Arsenal now extend their unbeaten run to 14 games in the league and move to the top of the table momentarily.

Wenger in the post match interview said,  “The key was not to let frustration into the game and keep our nerves and our composure.” He was also full praise for his entire squad, “I have top quality on the bench – there is not one player you can question on the bench today.”

Arsenal face Everton on Tuesday night at the Goodison Park while Stoke host Southampton.
