Chelsea have allegedly been given a boost in their attempt to bring Kostas Manolas to Stamford Bridge after talks over another new Roma deal broke recently.
According to reports, AS Roma defender Kostas Manolas remains a Chelsea target in the January window, in spite of the Blues’ inability to land him in the Summer.
As per a report by Italian production Calciomercato, the 25-year-old remains a target for Antonio Conte. The report expresses that the previous Italian boss and Chelsea owner Abramovich are hoping to add a defender to their squad for a solid title challenge this year and Manolas is a player that they have targeted.
However, Chelsea will probably face battles from European clubs when the January transfer window opens, and even in the Summer with both Juventus and Barcelona were keen for the Greek international.
Manolas, who has shown up 27 times for his nation, has prospered at Roma since joining from Olympiacos in 2014.
Since changing the formation to a 3-4-3 system in October the Blues have conceded only two goals in last eight Premier League matches however, that does not seem to have discontinued Antonio Conte taking a look at making any further addition.
Earlier Chelsea were linked with another Roma defender Rudiger, however, after his revelation that he is happy at the club and won’t leave anytime soon, it looks like the Blues have shifted their target to another one.
Manolas’s present contract keeps running till 2019 and Roma will be eager to tie him for whatever length of time that they can, given him always evolving importance to the Serie A squad. Spalletti’s club are presently second in the Serie A and losing Manolas would be a major blow for them in the middle of the season. However, if Chelsea come up with a big money offer for the Greek international, all will be depending upon Manolas how he reacts upon the situation.
