At Chelsea, he played beside with the likes of Dujon Sterling and Martell Taylor-Crossdale who are rated as the next big things in English football. In the Summer he was given a scholarship deal at Chelsea, however, was shockingly discharged by Chelsea a few months later.
The centre-back joins the Arsenal academy as a scholar and has previously represented England at youth level and has been capped internationally on seven occasions at u16 level. The young defender becomes Arsenal’s 12th scholarship intake of the year as part of the 2016/17 intake. Apart from the defense the versatile youngster can also operate in midfield positions but is primarily rated as a central defender.
Arsenal wrote on their official website: “Young defender Zech Medley has joined our academy as a scholar.
“The 16-year-old came through the junior set-up at Chelsea and has represented England at youth level.
“He becomes the 12th member of our 2016/17 scholarship intake.
“We’d like to welcome Zech to Arsenal.”
At 16-years-old, the talented defender still has plenty of room for improvement, as seen in his shaky debut against Fulham’s u18 side just days after he joined the youth ranks as he conceded a penalty in the 1-1 draw against the Under-18’s side. But the player seems to have impressed the coaches at Emirates sufficiently to earn him a first-year scholar contract at Arsenal. Arsene Wenger is known for giving proper guidance to the youngsters and if everything goes well Medley could be at the perfect place to prosper for the future.
