Nike: Chelsea is bigger club than PSG; Know the reason

Nike knows who is bigger between Chelsea and PSG

For Worldwide Football audience, the brand of English Premier League is more appealing than Ligue 1 and Premier League giants do garner a huge pull irrespective of last season’s performance.

Sponsorship bigwigs Nike has reportedly told French Champions PSG that Chelsea is bigger than the Paris based club, according to French outlet L’Equipe.

L’Equipe has reported that PSG were left in utter shock after learning that Chelsea succeeded  in pulling  off a whopping €70million deal with Nike despite their poor season with no Europe qualification and the horrible performance under Jose Mourinho. PSG’s owner was  particularly  jealous of the London club’s deal with Nike and immediately told his representatives  to negotiate to strike up  a similar lucrative deal. But, Nike have  told PSG that Chelsea’s international recognition and fandom is still superior, and  the Premier League TV deal also played a big part, reported L’Equipe.

According to reliable journalist Jonathan Johnson, Paris St. Germain  reportedly want to renegotiate their contract, that runs until 2022, with Nike. Current deal brings the Paris based club a revenue of around €20million to €25million per year, depending on results, but PSG supposedly want closer to the €70million Nike will be paying Chelsea per year. However, it is not certain whether Nike will be open to renegotiating the deal as PSG do not have the “international reputation” of English Premier League  side Chelsea. Also, Chelsea surrendered their merchandising rights in their Nike deal & PSG are not keen to do the same.
