Two world-class managers, Pep Guardiola and Antonio Conte will face each other as their sides Manchester City and Chelsea are set to lock horns in English Premier League’s Saturday showdown. During their pre-match press conferences, both the managers were respectful to each other, with Guardiola eventually hailing Conte as the ‘Best Manager in the World.” The gaffer duo disclosed facts about each other too.
Conte and Guardiola knew each other from the days back when they used to be footballers. Conte has said in his presser that back in the days, when they were players, Conte thinks he ran more than Guardiola but Guardiola did more with the ball. So, Conte implies that he had better work rate but Guardiola was more skillful on the ball.
Conte has also differentiated the managerial style and philosophy between the two, as according to him, his philosophy for his team is to go more direct towards the goal than Guardiola’s, but Conte agrees there’s more than one way to play football.
Guardiola had some words of acclaim for the Italian, said: “Conte is without doubt one of the best , maybe the best coach in the world right now. It’s the first time we are going to face each other. It’s good to play against him.”
”He made exceptional job in Turin. He is a contender to win the Premier League from the beginning and now maybe more than before.”
Before the clash, Guardiola must be a bit worried considering his poor record against Chelsea, with his record against Chelsea being: Games – 5, Win – 0, Lost – 1, Draw – 4, Win rate – 0%. Besides, the table toppers Chelsea are in red hot form whereas City have been inconsistent.
Key quotes of Guardiola’s press conference are: ”Everybody’s fit.”
”We are going to attack in the best way possible. Hopefully our talented players in the middle and upfront can make the difference.”
”Costa is a top player. He made an amazing season at Atletico and then came here. He’s a top player.”
”I hope (Pedro) doesn’t perform well tomorrow. I have to thank him, he made me a better manager. Near the box he’s a killer.”
Key quotes of Conte’s press conference are:
”I’m pleased with the attitude of all the players, those who are playing and those who have been on the bench or in the stands, there is a good atmosphere.”
”Tomorrow it’s a really tough game, a great test for us and our formation. We know it won’t be easy, we face a really great team with great players and a good idea of football.”
”We want to show we are working well and that we are growing. It’s another step for us to show what has changed since the start of the season.”
”For sure it’s a big game. This season we’ve also played Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham and Man United. In this league every game is big because it’s difficult, so tough. This is my first season in England and it’s fantastic, I’m looking forward to it.”
Check out here is what Guardiola has to say about his hair or the loss of it.
I asked Guardiola about playing against Conte when he was at Brescia."You and me had hair in that time. Long time ago!"
