Chelsea striker Diego Costa has been overwhelmed by the praise received from the club legend Gianfranco Zola following his great start of the season so far.
Zola has stated that the Chelsea man has been “Exceptional” in the striking force of Chelsea and his game can be compared to the another Chelsea legend Didier Drogba.
The Spanish international has already scored 10 goals in the Premier League this season securing him at the top of the leader-board and sharing the spot with the Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero.
Chelsea legend Zola has been impressed so far with the performance of the 28 year old striker since he joined Chelsea from the Spanish side Atletico Madrid back in 2014.
“He is certainly one of them”, Zola told in an interview when he was asked whether Costa can be considered as one of the best strikers featured in the Premier League history. “He is very similar to what Drogba was before. He is very tall, very strong, so you can give him high balls and he will handle them”, Zola added comparing the Spanish international with the Chelsea icon.
Besides being a clinical striker, the Italian Chelsea legend is also very impressed to see the with the ball skills of Costa. As he said, “But also he is very skilled with the ball at his feet and he is very fast. So you can see he is good and can play in different ways. You can always give him the ball and he will make the most out of this. He has been exceptional really, he has scored many goals but his contribution has also been good for the team.”
After the 13th gameweek, The Blues have been finding their place at the top of the Premier League table under the management of another Italian veteran manager Antonio Conte. The dominant management from the Italian has also impressed Zola as well. He commented, “The English coaches have always been good. It is also well-known that Italian coaches have always been good.”
The Chelsea legend further praised the tactical knowledge of Conte, “I think the style suits well in this league – if you have good tactical awareness, you are at an advantage. Their tactical knowledge of the game and periods which you work on can make a big difference.”
Chelsea and Diego Costa will play Manchester City in the Premier League weekend opener on Saturday.
