ISL Semis Permutations: How NorthEast United can still qualify

The battle to book semis berth is really heating up at ISL


It wan an important fixture for NorthEast United and they managed to defeat the 2nd boy of the table Delhi Dynamos by  2-1.

In this must win match the Highlanders started with a positive approach against the inform Delhi who have thrashed Goa by a huge goal margin(5-1) in their previous game. On the other hand, the Highlanders also managed a draw against the Chennaiyin FC in the most exciting encounter of this season before facing Delhi. The first half was 0-0, both the team got few chances but failed to convert but in second half, NorthEast’s Seityasen Singh controlled Zakora’s long ball on right flank and calmly finished to give the home side lead. In 71th minute, Romaric doubled their lead. Delhi did manage to get a goal back in injury time and Marcelo Pereira was the scorer.

After this result, Kerala vs NorthEast united is virtually a knockout game. Kerala needed just a draw to secure their place in semi final where as NorthEast required a win to register a spot in their maiden semifinal. The Highlanders started this edition of ISL with a winning note but lost their rhythm in mid way of the season. Though, at the end, they are getting their initial form back. On the other hand, Kerala were boosted after the return of C. K. Vineeth, who have scored 4 goals in just 5 matches.

The last phase of this edition of ISL is quite interesting. In 2nd December, Atletico De Kolkata(ATK) will face FC Pune city. ATK have already qualified for the semis but they will surely try to win and finish at 1st or 2nd place. On the other side, Delhi will face league leaders Mumbai in Mumbai. Delhi’s Marcelo Pereira is leading the “Golden Boot” race with 9 goals and 5 assists. The combination of Marcelo-Gadze-Malouda is one of the best attacking combinations of this ISL. Mumbai City FC have the service of legendary Diego Forlan, who have already scored 5 goals including a hat-trick. Except Forlan, Mumbai have Indian Captain Sunil Chetri with them. Forlan-Sunil-Defedrico trio is the lifeline of Mumbai’s forward line up. So, Delhi vs Mumbai will also be treat to watch before the vital match of this stage between Kerala and North-East at Jawarlal Nehru Stadium, Kochi in 4th December.
