Manchester City and Real Madrid set to battle it out for Barcelona Prodigy

Manchester City and Real Madrid are reportedly are set to battle it out to sign highly rated Barcelona teenager Nico Gonzalez.

Nico Gonzalez is a 14-year-old youngster who is currently on the books of Barcelona. Gonzalez has attracted interest from clubs across Europe, although much will depend on the possibility of his choosing to quit the Spanish club’s famed La Masia academy.

Nico’s father and former Deportivo La Coruna star, Fran, has already completed his own move to the Etihad to join Pep Guardiola’s coaching staff and City look to be in prime position to land the youngster. However, as per reports, Fran had earlier stated that his son, Nico, shall stay at the La Masia and if any offer comes he has left the decision on to Nico, who is free to choose the club he wants to continue his footballing education at. But it looks like now the winds of change might be coming to sweep both those plans and his boy away.

Journalist Albert Roge told Catalunya Radio that the youngster is set to join the academy at Manchester City next year. Nico is rated as one of the top talents in Barca’s highly rated academy and the transfer will come as a huge blow to the Catalan club who have seen many of their young talents being poached by other clubs in recent years.

Hottest young prospects like Cesc Fabregas, Hector Bellerin, Pique in recent years were lured away from the club and now the Catalan club fear the same could happen. Manchester City currently have former Barcelona’s director of football Txiki Begiristain at the same position with former Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola as their manager have also joined the club.

And if If they are able to convince Gonzalez a move to the Blue half of Manchester, it could act as an incentive for other young talents around the world to see their opportunity at the club.
