Arsenal forward Lucas Perez is back in the squad for their EFL Cup tie on Wednesday against Southampton.
The striker was injured in the 4th round tie against Reading. He suffered an ankle problem and he has recovered finally and fit enough to be in the squad for the Southampton tie, Arsene Wenger confirmed it. Lucas has been mostly used in the EFL cup matches and so far he has scored 2 goals in the competition. He also grabbed two assists in a Champions League match but his role has been limited at the Emirates.
So, it will be a pivotal few months ahead of him if he has to put some mark at his new team in his first season. Arsene Wenger has spoken highly of him and he has to deliver that on the pitch now. Arsenal will also be missing Olivier Giroud who has a slight groin problem and will be unavailable.
On the other hand, Mathieu Debuchy is sidelined again, this time thanks to a hamstring injury. The Frenchman has been a forgotten man but made an appearance for the club since last November against Bournemouth, only to be limped off after initial exchanges. His latest injury has damaged his hamstring and it is feared that he will have to be sidelined for a long time.
“Mathieu has a scan today [Tuesday] but we don’t have the results yet,” Arsène Wenger told Arsenal.com.
“Lucas is in the squad and will will have a mixture of youth and experience, but still 90 per cent of the first-team squad.”
Other players who are injured at the moment are Cazorla, Bellerin. Also Mertesacker and Welbeck hasn’t featured for the Gunners this season at all due to their respective injury problems. November this season hasn’t been that cruel for Arsenal as they haven’t yet lost a game in this season since the opening day of the Premier League, but their injury woes continue.
