Transfer: Manchester United plotting to bring French Star at the Club

Manchester United are preparing a move for West Ham United midfielder Dimitri Payet as Jose Mourinho looks for a wide playmaker in the January transfer window.

According to reports from the Daily Mirror, Jose Mourinho has been a long-time admirer of Payet’s abilities and is now planning to bring the Frenchman over to Manchester United as the Portuguese continues to overhaul the squad at Old Trafford.

The Frenchman has been one of the standout performers for the Hammers in recent seasons, and with Slaven Bilic’s side struggling this term, Manchester United are keen to offer him a way out.

Payet only signed a new £125,000-a-week five-year contract in February and the Hammers will demand at least £35m ($44m) for the 29-year-old France international.

The Hammers, who are struggling near the relegation zone, are unlikely to accept any offers in January but will take a look at the situation in the summer, depending on where the teams finish this season.

Payet, who was signed for £10.7m from Marseille last year, was the standout star for West Ham last season, scoring nine goals and registering 12 assists in 30 Premier League appearances. The attacker also won the club’s player of the season award, then went on to star in France’s European Championship finals side.

Mourinho wants to add pace to his side and is in the market for a new winger in January. Payet’s addition to the Manchester United squad would not only add to the attacking firepower but also provide a consistent and potent threat from dead-ball situations which will bring the extra edge to their attacking intent as they are lacking creativity and goal scoring in the final third.
