Arsenal defender Gabriel took on Snapchat and posted a photo of the PSG defender Thiago Silva and captioned “Obrigado idolo”, which means ‘Thank you Idol.’
The Brazilian has a lot of respect for his compatriot and even that was shown in the tunnel cam before the start of the match on Wednesday between Arsenal and PSG.
Thiago Silva is regarded as one of the best defenders in the world and he has done extremely well in Europe. He won Serie A with Milan and then he has won back to back Ligue 1 titles with PSG. The versatile defender has also represented Brazil in international arena and has a silver medal in Olympics with his country.
Silva hails from Rio de Janeiro while Gabriel is from Sao Paulo, hence they do know each other since early days and Gabriel must have learnt a lot from his idol. But so far the Arsenal man hasn’t had a great time with the Gunners.
The 25 year old arrived in January 2015 from Villarreal and hasn’t really cemented his place at the Emirates. He has gone down the pecking order and has made sporadic appearances for the club and this season he is yet to feature in the Premier League due to the good form of Shkodran Mustafi and Laurent Koscielny. The only two games he has taken part are the two League Cup ties.
The main frailty of Gabriel is his error prone defensive work and he will have to rectify his mistakes to have a better future at the Arsenal.
Gabriel was called up for Brazil national team as well, ahead of the friendlies. But he didn’t get a chance to represent his country and he surely will be looking for inspiration from his idol to have a better impact for both club and country.
