Transfer: Manchester United target prefers Arsenal move

Arsenal have reportedly emerged as David Alaba’s preferred destination ahead of Manchester United should he decide to leave Bayern Munich for the Premier League.

The 24-year-old has been linked with a move to the Premier League in recent weeks, with Manchester United, Arsenal and Manchester City all touted as next potential destinations for the Austrian.

It was reported recently that Manchester United were set to make a move for the Austrian star to lure him away from the struggling Carlo Ancelotti’s side. The red Devils also sent scouts to watch Alaba during the international fixture as Jose Mourinho is believed to weigh up his alternatives on the left side of the defence particularly after recent claims of a dispute with Luke Shaw.

The Austrian only recently signed a new contract at Bayern until 2021 but Manchester Evening News assumes that the boyhood Arsenal fan would rather relocate to London, than making a reunion with Mourinho at United or Pep Guardiola at Manchester City. His reported market value is around £35 million but it would probably take a significantly higher bid to take him away from the German champions.

Since joining the Bayern youth academy and achieving his way to through the ranks at the club, the 24-year-old defender has gone on to win five Bundesliga titles, four German cups and claimed Champions League glory in 2013.

Manchester United will be on the hunt for defenders in January. Jose Mourinho has been given cash to splash on what he sees as a problem area for the Red Devils. and if the report is to be believed then Mourinho has to look elsewhere in his bid to strengthen his defensive options.

Given that Alaba can play in various positions in midfield and defence, he would certainly be a more than useful addition to any squad, but it remains to be seen whether or not he opts for a switch to England next year.
