Transfer: Chelsea table £12m bid for Croatian midfielder

According to reports by Calciomercato, Chelsea have made a bid for Fiorentina midfielder Milan Badelj. Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is a big fan of Badelj and hopes to bring him to London In January.

The report suggests the Premier League club have, suddenly tabled an important bid for the player to the Italian club and now find themselves in pole position to sign the Croatian international ahead of Juventus, AC Milan and Inter after the Italian club seemed to be satisfied by the opening offer.

New signing N’Golo Kante has adopted well alongside Nemanja Matic in the heart of the midfield under the Italian, but there is still the need for a quality backup with the likes of Cesc Fabregas and Mikel John Obi set to leave the club.

Badelj has asserted himself as an excellent player in the centre of the park and his ball holding abilities is something which has captured the attention of the Blues coach. The 27-year-old could be a shrewd acquisition for the Blues and could help Chelsea get the best out of their attacking talent.

The player’s current contract ends in June 2018 and recently the defensive midfielder has rejected an approach for a contract renewal from Fiorentina. Badelj now wants a move away from the club for a new challenge, with Badelj’s agent, Dejan Joksimovic, confirming they are in talks with a few clubs.

The agent said: “He (Badelj) will certainly leave the club in June 2018, that is sure. Anything is possible and he could leave much earlier but that’s up to Fiorentina to decide when to sell.”

“Milan represent our first choice. Badelj had an excellent rapport with Montella and his current presence on the Rossoneri bench is one of the many reasons why Badelj would like to be part of Milan.”

The Viola and Chelsea enjoy a good relationship and if everything goes well Badelj could be on his way in January to Chelsea.
