West Ham’s failure to purchase a reliable marquee striker who can deliver the goods in the summer transfer window has come back to haunt them. And they are now interested in Mario Mandzukic.
With the Hammers currently 17th on table, just one spot above relegation, none of the strikers signed have been able to find the back of the net. Bacca and Lacazette turned down approaches with the former demanding Champions League football and a 43 million bid for the latter failing to finalise the deal.
13 new signings were brought in after a splendid season under Bilic and none of them have been able to impress their new fans. West Ham finally brought in Juventus flop Zaza as their marquee striker with Ashley Fletcher, Jonathan Calleri and Andre Ayew the other strikers signed.
Zaza has clearly been unable to settle in with Ayew and Calleri unable to step up and deliver for the Hammers at their new Olympic stadium.
Striker Ashley Fletcher who made a move on a free transfer from Manchester United in search for regular game time has snapped up the opportunity presented to him with his performances and style of play earning him comparisons to Marcus Rashford.
With Zaza linked to Napoli and Bilic eager to let him go, West ham scouts have been closely tracking the Croatian International Mario Mandzukic. The striker’s contract expires in 2018 with the Italian giants Juventus valuing him at just 18 million.
Bilic has worked previously with him when he was the Croatian head coach and has identified him as someone who can get him the performances he desires.
Mario is down the pecking order at Juventus with Dybala and Higuain preferred for the striker’s role by Allegri. Reports in Italy indicate that the lack of game time might encourage him to seriously consider a move to North London.
With Dutch International Janssen failing to shoulder the responsibility, Harry Kane has found it tough to juggle it all. The pressure clearly seems to weighing down on the Englishman. And so, the 30 year old’s effective finishing makes him an attractive option to pursue in the January window with the comparatively low asking price demanded matching Pochetino’s requirements.
With French giants PSG and clubs from the Chinese Super League also interested in snapping Mandzukic up, it will be exciting to see how this transfer plays out in the end.
