Four Premier league clubs are after a young 22 year old centre back of Serie A side Atalanta, Mattia Caldara. Apparently Arsenal, Chelsea and the two Manchester rivals are interested and are in red alert to acquire the services of the Atalanta ace, according to reports in Italy.
Italian giants Juventus are also interested in Caldara, but Italian outlet Gazetta dello Sport claimed that Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United are closely monitoring the young sensation while Guardiola’s City are not far behind also.
Caldara, the Italian youth international has spent most of his career on loan at different clubs, most recently at Cesena last season. But this season he is enjoying his break through in the Atalanta first team and has so far played 8 games for the club, netting 3 goals which is an impressive record for a defender. His form has attracted attention across Europe and it is to believe that a move to the bigger clubs is not that far away.
The four Premier League clubs are expected to face a tug of war to get their man as it will be an intense fight to sign Caldara. The 22-year-old who will cost around £10million would be tough to lure away as Atalanta have tied with him until 2021.
United have problems at their back as Jose Mourinho is in search for some players to cover their defense, but a move for an inexperienced 22 year old this January may be a bit more audacious, especially when the Red Devils are already linked with Virgil Van Djik.
Manchester City and Chelsea are also looking to boost their defense but Arsenal are better placed to sign the player, according to reports. With Per Mertesacker injured and Gabriel no longer in the mix, Arsene Wenger may well be looking to bring a quality defender as a cover for Koscielny and Mustafi.
