The fixture of Manchester United vs West Ham, to be played on a cold Sunday night, is definitely going to be an extremely important one for the home side.
Manchester United, a rather inconsistent side in the Premier League so far, will be looking forward to bounce back from their recent unfortunate draw against Arsenal. A certain Olivier Giroud scored very late last Sunday to equalize with what happened to be the first shot on target for the Gunners on that day. The Red Devils, however, have played a really good game against Feyenoord when they defeated the Dutch side 4-0 in the Europa League game on Thursday. This victory would definitely boost their morale by a great extent.
The Hammers also did not win any of their last two matches. In fact, from a 2-1 lead against Tottenham in the last match, they succumbed to a painful 2-3 defeat as Harry Kane scored a brace towards the end of the game. They will try to turn the tides and get back to winning ways at Old Trafford.
Team news and injury updates:
Jose Mourinho will be happy to get Luke Shaw back in the squad. The talented left back missed a few games due to unfortunate injury, but he played his part against Feyenoord in the midweek’s UEFA Europa League clash. Shaw will surely feature in the starting lineup for this match, ahead of Matteo Darmian. However, Eric Bailly and Chris Smalling continue to be unavailable, and there are some minor issues with Marouane Fellaini’s fitness. Other players should be available on Sunday.
Slaven Bilic, on the other hand, has a lot of worries. Along with long term absentees Arthur Masuaku, Sam Byram and Andy Carroll, reliable defender Winston Reid will also miss the actions this weekend, serving his suspension for the red card couple of weeks ago. Fortunately for the Hammers, the effective midfielders Dimitri Payet, Manuel Lanzini and Michail Antonio will be up and running and a lot are expected from them.
Manchester United vs West Ham possible lineups:
Mourinho is expected to continue with his 4-2-3-1 formation, but after Rooney’s inspiring form in the recent matches, he should get the number nine role, and that would see Paul Pogba being dropped to center midfield, alongside Ander Herrera who has been a revelation this season and will be fully charged up after getting rest during the Feyenoord clash. In defence, Shaw will be installed in the left flank, with Valencia on the other end and Marcos Rojo may partner Phil Jones in the center.
Bilic, on the other hand, has been using a 3-4-2-1 attacking formation, that can change to a defensive 5-4-1 at times of defending. Given the unavailability of Reid, he will probably continue using the same, with James Collins coming in for the suspended player. Other players should remain unchanged from the side that started against Tottenham. Here is the expected West Ham lineup:
