Chelsea have moved ahead of Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus in the race to sign AIK attacker Alexander Isak, a source close to the Swedish club has told ESPN FC.
The young attacker is already being compared to Swedish legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus all showing a strong interest.
The news follows events of last week that saw French champions PSG open negotiations for the Sweden Under 21 international. There were also reports that Juventus were about to offer £13.5million.
But now the source said Chelsea had tabled a firm bid for the Swedish youngster and are considered favourites to land him.
“PSG have been in contact with AIK numerous times but there is no offer on the table right now,” the source said.
“Inside the club, Chelsea are the favourites and have already proposed €11 million.”
Alexander Isak is a 17-year-old Swedish attacker who has come through the ranks at Swedish side AIK Solna. Since making his first-team debut for the Swedish outfit back in February The 17-year-old striker has taken the top Swedish football league by storm this year, scoring 10 goals in 24 matches for his club AIK and helping the team to 2nd place in the competition, six points behind leaders Malmo FF.
AIK chief Bjorn Wesstrom previously admitted the club are looking to rake in a club-record fee for Isak and now the young Swedish prodigy could soon become a Chelsea player.
However, Chelsea’s youth policy is as of now a confused system, with the club conveying an entire host of youngsters on loan. Young strikers, for example, Tammy Abraham, Patrick Bamford, Islam Feruz and Joao Rodriguez have all moved to clubs on loan, all with different ambitions. It is too soon to comment about that what will happen with Isak, but if he wants to move to the Blues he will have to go through a lot of competitions that’s for sure.
