Chelsea duo Diego Costa and Thibaut Courtois are prepared to hand Chelsea a huge boost as both are willing to extend their contracts and prolong their stays at Stamford Bridge.
Both Costa and Courtois have been critical to Chelsea’s recent success under manager Antonio Conte, and according to reports by the Telegraph, both are prepared to sign on the new extension contract to prolong their stay at the club.
The star pair has been linked with returns to Spain over the past year, having both played for Atletico Madrid before Conte persuaded them to give him a chance to change their minds. It has been a remarkable turn of events for Chelsea and Costa since the summer when Atletico Madrid’s President Enrique Cerezo claimed that the former striker wanted to return to the Vicente Calderon. Costa was also linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain. But in just four months, Conte has convinced Costa and Courtois that they do not need to return to Spain for the betterment of their career.
There is no immediate hurry for Chelsea to get them signed up to new deals as soon as possible as Costa, 28, and Courtois, 24, are each contracted at Chelsea up until 2019. But with their sublime performances and to tie them up for more years talks will open in the New Year for an extension.
Costa is currently the Premier League’s top scorer with 10 goals whereas goalkeeper Courtois has helped to keep six successive cleans sheets in the top flight, having shone under his new Italian boss.
With both now happy at the club, Costa would earn around £200,000 per week, while Courtois would receive wages in the region of £150,000 per week as per reports.
It looks like the Italian has held private talks with both Courtois and Costa and secured the services of both the star players in the long run.
