Arsenal again failed to secure their top spot in the group status as they were held to a 2-2 draw by PSG at the Emirates. Cavani gave the French side the lead and Giroud scored the equalizer from the spot. Marco Veratti’s own goal meant Arsenal were on course but Lucas’ header was deflected in by Iwobi to make it all squares and that’s how it ended.
Arsene Wenger made 4 changes and the team were second best in most part of the first half. The away side came with a lot more intent and looked the better team. Cavani scored from a Blaise Matuidi pass to give PSG the lead. At the final minute of the half, an error from PSG defense let Alexis through from a superb Ozil pass but he was brought down in the area by Thiago Motta, rather very softly. Giroud made no mistake from the spot as Arsenal were back on level terms at half time.
In the second half the Gunners up their tempo and were playing more of their natural fluent passing game. Goal came in the hour mark when Ramsey’s shot was cleared by Marquinhos but it hit Veratti and went in, beating an outstretched Areola. Cavani had few chances but Ospina made two good grabs. But the away side struck again through Lucas, when his apparently weak header was deflected home by Alex Iwobi. The match ended at 2-2, leaving both the teams locked on 11 points.
The draw means Arsenal will have to better the result of PSG in the final matchday. PSG have a slight advantage as they have scored more away goals in the head to head count against Arsenal. Another advantage for the French side is that they face Ludogorets in the final tie at home.
