Chat: Arsenal Keeper speaks on Competition and Life at Club

Arsenal’s David Ospina has spoken about his competition with Petr Cech at the club. The Colombian has seen his chances limited as Petr Cech is the indisputable no. 1 for the Gunners, but Arsene Wenger has given him the chance to play in the Champions League fixtures.

Speaking to Arsenal’s official website Ospina said that his competition with Cech has taken him to new altitudes.

“Yes, of course [I am proud of that display],” Ospina said. Every match is different, though. We know we are facing a quality side on Wednesday, with very well-known players, so we have to do our job. We want to finish top of the group,” the Colombia captain looked confident ahead of Arsenal’s important tie against PSG.
He admitted that the team trains hard and he works hard in the training to prepare himself for the games, but he respects coach’s decision and is mentally tough for the outcomes. Former Nice custodian also admitted that a healthy rivalry between him and Cech is necessary and it benefits the team.

Ospina also has enough respect for Cech, “He’s a very good goalkeeper. We’re all familiar with how good he is. That allows me to have fierce competition so I work as hard as I can to play. As footballers, we want to play in every match, but you have to respect the manager’s decision.”

Ospina may well be starting on Wednesday for the Gunners to face PSG and in the last meeting he was in inspired form and helped Arsenal to come away with a draw in Paris. He made some outstanding saves and denied Edinson Cavani multiple times from scoring. Arsenal faithfuls will be hoping to see him emulate those heights yet again for the upcoming match. In this all important tie, there is no doubt that Ospina will play a massive part.
