Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is very happy with the performance of the players they have shown against Middlesbrough to secure a marginal 1-0 victory. But he has also marked his team need some composure so that The Blues can finish the game by scoring a second goal.

Chelsea man in form Diego Costa had driven his team to have one goal advantage over the home side as the Spanish striker managed to send the ball behind the keeper from corner following a deflected ball just before the half time. Chelsea managed to retain the lead, though Middlesbrough pressed the ball in the last ten minutes causing deadly threats on the Chelsea defense.

Conte admitted Middlesbrough was a strong opponent as they have played brilliantly earlier this season against some big contenders of the Premier League. “It was a good performance against a very strong team”, Conte said, “Don’t forget Middlesbrough drew with Arsenal and Manchester City away. I am pleased with the performance of the players and their attitude.”

Chelsea were in complete control of the second half. But they missed the second goal although. Moreover for the last quarter of the match the Chelsea defense had to go through some big questions asked by the home side.

Chelsea manager has mentioned the importance of the second security goal in the game as he believes his team should have scored a second to avoid the pressure. “We created many chances to score the second goal. It’s important in this game, if you have the possibility, to kill the game, because if you have corners and crosses anything can happen in this league”, he explained, “You can arrive at the end of the game not afraid (if you score the second goal), but this is the sixth game in a row we haven’t conceded, and that is another good thing for us.”

Chelsea’s leading top scorer Diego Costa has managed to score the one and only goal of the match as well as his tenth of the season. But he was quiet for the much of the game. In reply to that Conte said, “Diego is always in the action for the goal, he’s a fantastic striker and he’s showing it.”

With this scoreline Chelsea has secured the top spot in the Premier League this season. But they will have some acid tests back to back in the next two gameweeks as they will clash against the London rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City. In addition to that Chelsea forward Diego Costa is just one booking away from suspension. So, in this situation, the Blue side from the West London must have to be aware.

“Now we have five days to prepare for a tough game against a team like Tottenham. We have to continue with trust and with our fans”, Conte added.
