Transfer news : Manchester United find replacement for Smalling and Darmian

Manchester United are interested in signing Napoli full back Elseid Hysaj. With United defenders Matteo Darmian and Chris Smalling reportedly leaving Old Trafford in January, the Red Devils will require some new faces at defence and are currently monitoring 22 year old Albanian full back Elseid Hysaj.

Hysaj is a talented young right back and can also play at the center of the defence meaning he could be a perfect replacement for the outgoing Manchester United duo of Darmian and Smalling.

Napoli signed Hysaj from Serie A club Empoli for a fee of just £5million, but the defender could cost up to £25 million for United. Hysaj’s agent Mario Giuffredi has stated that there has not been any contact with the English club but he would consider an offer from the Red Devils for his client.

Giuffredi told TuttoMercatoWeb that Hysaj is having quite a good season but must reach the levels of his previous year when he managed to play 60 games in total for both club and country.

Meanwhile, Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has claimed that Darmian and Smalling’s time at Old Trafford are over, after giving them six months to prove themselves. With United having a real star in Timothy Fosu-Mensah who has just signed a new four year contract with the club, Darmian’s United career certainly remains in doubt. The Italian has been capped just 26 times by the Azzuri and has played just two matches in the league for United so far this season.

As far as Chris Smalling’s United career goes, it could very well be over as well. Smalling did make seven appearances for United this season but his performances are far from convincing. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admired the former Fulham defender for quite some time now and is interested in signing the English international. Regardless of his performances this season there is no doubt that Smalling has established himself as one of the best English defender’s in the Premier League and would be a good addition to The Gunners’ squad.

The Hysaj situation though remains pretty clear for Manchester United. The Albanian who has 25 caps for Albania is currently under contract for Napoli till 2021 but according to the full back’s agent, the youngster is open to considering a move to Old Trafford in the upcoming January transfer window.
