Arsenal grabbed another victory over their North London rivals, this time in the U-23 division as the Gunners beat Spurs away 2-0. Arsenal first team player Mathieu Debuchy featured for the under 23 side and scored a goal as well, so did Mavididi, to seal the victory for the travelling Gunners.
As it Happened:
Arsenal were better from the kick off, they were pressing high and were creating better opportunities. Arsenal’s young striker Mavididi was alive in the box and he had two chances saved by the Spurs keeper. At the latter half of the first 45 minutes, the home team acquired some possession and created some half opportunities as it was deadlock at half time.
Arsenal began to dominate after the restart, and five minutes in Bielik missed a gilt-edged chance to open the scoring as he blazed over from eight yards out. The front four of Arsenal induced the pressure and unsettled spurs defense. Arsenal got their goal in the 65th minute when Debuchy volleyed Willock’s cross home through the underside of the crossbar.
A couple of minutes later, Mavididi was blatantly brought down just outside the box, and the guilty Spurs defender was sent off. The 10 men home side then succumbed to Arsenal pressure and Gunners’ young maestro Gedion Zelalem started to show his magic.
The second goal finally came on 90th minute as Hinds stepped inside the area and was chopped down by Luke Amos. Mavididi scored Arsenal’s second from the spot, sending Lopez the wrong way to give them a two goal cushion. In the end, Steve Gatting’s side saw the final moments out to seal an important win against their arch rivals.
Tottenham: Lopez; Muscatt, Oglivie, Amos, Maghoma; Owens, Peters, Walkes, Harrison, Carroll; Georgiu
Arsenal: Macey; Debuchy, Bielik, Sheaf, Bola; Bennacer, Zelalem, Nelson, Hinds, Willock; Mavididi
The win takes the Arsenal U-23 side 6th in the table, while Tottenham are languishing at the bottom of the Division 1.
