Manchester United take on Arsenal as the Premier League resumes after yet another dull International break.Game week 12 of the Premier League kicks-off with a marquee fixture featuring Manchester United and Arsenal at the Theatre of Dreams , Old Trafford .
Arsenal are unbeaten since the opening day of the campaign and come into the game having won 3 and drawn 2 of their last 5 league games. They are currently fourth on the table trailing leaders Liverpool by two points and Manchester City on goal difference .United on the other hand are stuttering, though they won their last game away at Swansea they didn’t win in the previous four games. They occupy the sixth place with 18 points and are some way off the top four.
Arsenal have been brilliant going forward this season ,scoring 24 goals in the process.Alexis Sanchez, Walcott and Ozil have all contributed with goals and assists. They thrive when given the space and time to play their intricate football while also being dangerous on the counters.Defending hasn’t been that smooth sailing as they’ve been found vulnerable at times. Pace and Aerial threat are two things they have failed to deal with properly in the recent past. Though the centre back pairing of Koscielny and Mustafi looks to be solid Monreal’s lack of pace seems to be a concern. Youngster Iwobi’s performance in the past few games haven’t been assuring either.Injury concerns over Sanchez persists despite the Chilean playing the World cup Qualifiers against Uruguay on Tuesday.
United have been very inconsistent this season, they have shown flashes of their ability in the wins over Leicester and Swansea but the performances are far too inconsistent. Their record signing Pogba has struggled, Rooney lacks imagination and has lost his place in the team.Add to this the suspension of Ibrahimovic and a rather long injury list, they would do well to get a draw.Any defensive pairing they field would be a makeshift one with both first choice centre-backs and fullbacks out with injuries. But Carrick slotting in alongside Herrera in the defensive midfield could provide Pogba the license to roam free and create an impact on the game. Using Rashford’s pace to hit on the counter seems to be another alternate.
Manchester United vs Arsenal (Last season)
Both fixtures ended with victories for home sides as Arsenal won comfortably (3-0) at the Emirates in October while an under-strength United defeated Arsenal 3-2 at Old Trafford in February. That was significant for both sides as it announced the arrival of Teenage sensation Rashford for United and knocked Arsenal out of contention for the title.
The game promises attacking football but could also turn out to be a dull affair given that both teams have injury concerns and this falls immediately after the International break. But it is an intriguing one given that Arsene Wenger hasn’t won against Mourinho in a competitive fixture and Arsenal aren’t too fond of Old Trafford. Could this finally be the game where Wenger gets the better of Mourinho? We’ll have to wait until Saturday to find out .
Manchester United Vs Arsenal : Probable Line-ups
The home side will miss the services of Eric Bailly, Chris Smalling miss out with Injuries while Ibrahimovic is suspended after picking up 5 yellow cards. Wayne Rooney, Fellaini , Antonio Valencia and Luke Shaw are injury doubts. Mourinho doesn’t really have many choices at the moment but he always finds a way out doesn’t he?
This is how United may line up on Saturday:
Arsenal have few new injury problems with Hector Bellerin out until December, Santi Cazorla has no return date and the longterm absentees Per Mertesacker and Danny Welbeck continue to be side lined. Alexis Sanchez is a bit of an injury doubt but he played Chile’s game on Tuesday and is expected to be available. Other than these Wenger still has a lot of options to pick from.
