According to German newspaper Express, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has ignited the interest on the Bayer Leverkusen forward Julian Brandt.
In recent times, Liverpool have made something of a habit of raiding the Bundesliga for bargains, from signing Joel Matip as a free transfer and getting Loris karius for just €5.5M last summer to triggering Emre Can’s €12M release clause and buying Roberto Firmino in 2014.
Now, according to SportsBild, they could be set for another Bundesliga deal, Bayer Leverkusen’s 20-year-old winger and attacking midfielder Julian Brandt. The young German apparently has a release clause of just €12.5M and could be acquired this January to cover for Sadio Mané while he’s at the AFCON.
The Bayer Leverkusen forward is among the league’s and Leverkusen’s most promising prospects with the likes of Jonathan Tah, Benjamin Henrichs and Kevin Kampl among others.
Julian Brandt is also being closely monitored by the likes of Bayern Munich, Manchester City, Juventus and AC Milan but Liverpool’s interest has been the most concrete.
The low release clause is generating transfer wrangle among the European elites and Jurgen Klopp would surely want to wrap it up as soon as possible before a tug-of-war for the player takes place. However, Brandt’s father who was also his advisor was calm and remained coy when asked about his son’s future. “Of course there is interest, but there are no negotiations or pre-discussions with other clubs. Julian decides what he is doing. Timing plays an important role. I think that we’ll get together in the summer of 2017 at the latest to decide how to proceed further.”

The young German was among the nominees for this year’s edition of the prestigious Golden Ball and has already been capped by the Germany national team on four occasions. Last season, Brandt scored 10 goals and eight assists in 44 total appearances for Leverkusen as a 19-year-old. The year before, when he broke into their first team, he managed four goals and five assists in 35 appearances.
