Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is focusing on Bundesliga once again as he wants to recruit another defender. According to the Mirror, The German boss is hoping to sign the 20-year-old centre-back from Bayer Leverkusen Jonathan Tah.

Klopp has settled on Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip as his first-team centre-backs so far this season, with the latter especially noteworthy after his free summer move from Schalke 04 this season.

However, with apparently no future for Mamadou Sakho and Tiago Ilori at the club, and makeshift fourth choice centre-back Lucas Leiva in the last year of his agreement with no indication of a renewal, Liverpool need some planning for future. 6’3″ Tah who possesses a keen perception and nuanced ball-playing abilities can be one of the solutions for Jurgen Klopp.

Tah, 20, has been featuring for Bayer Leverkusen since his 2015 move from Hamburg, showed up 29 times last season and also played ten matches in Europe over the Champions League and Europa League. The defender has nine Bundesliga appearances for the side in the current campaign and already has two caps for Germany.

Leverkusen’s sporting director and Germany legend Rudi Voller has hailed the young defender. He said: “Jonathan belongs to a new generation of centre-backs who are very good footballers.”

The Reds have been the Premier League’s highest goals scoring side this season, scoring 30 league goals in only 11 matches this season yet they’ve additionally conceded 14 goals, the most by any team in the top seven of the league. The Reds do need to keep more clean sheets if they want to put a challenge in their maiden Premier League dreams this season.

The Liverpool boss has used his influence in the Bundesliga by already signing Matip, Klavan, and karius this summer very cheaply. And if the Reds can pull this deal off in January, it will certainly bolster Jurgen Klopp’s options at the back as he looks to maintain their track record intact for the rest of the season.
