Former Real Madrid full-back and now Club ambassador Roberto Carlos has claimed the club are interested in signing Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho.
Coutinho’s inspiring form so far this season has seen him linked with the likes of PSG and Barcelona, and the World Cup winner has suggested Real Madrid are also looking to make the Liverpool attacking midfielder their latest addition at the Bernabeu.
When asked about Coutinho’s interest from Real Madrid, the Brazilian said to Diario Madridista:“Zinedine Zidane has been a long admirer of Coutinho, and has told club president Florentino Perez that the Brazilian is top of his wish-list”.
“Because I’m Brazilian, I’m very happy that Coutinho is doing well. I don’t how long he has on his Liverpool contract Liverpool, but Real Madrid want to sign the very best players”.
Coutinho had been tipped to join Barcelona due to his long-standing friendship with Brazilian teammate Neymar, while PSG will be looking to make an impression of intent in the coming transfer windows after the departure of their marksman Ibrahimovic.
The attacking Brazilian midfielder arrived at the club from Inter Milan in the January transfer window back in 2013 and went on to become a key player under then Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers. And this season under Jurgen Klopp the midfielder is showing his true potential on a consistent basis. Coutinho has contributed five goals and helped in further five assists in the Reds’ opening 11 Premier League games, helping them to the lead position in the league table before the international break. Even against the arch-rival Argentina, the little magician has scored a stunner to thump Messi’s by 3-0 in the world cup qualifying tie.
Coutinho had expanded his agreement with Liverpool last season which will see the playmaker remain at the club until the year 2020. The Brazilian had also expressed his enjoyment of signing his new expanded agreement with the club and expressed that playing for Liverpool is a dream for him. However, if clubs like Barcelona and Real Madrid come calling, it would certainly become very difficult for any player to reject a move.
