According to reports from Portuguese newspaper A Bola, Porto’s Mexican midfielder, Hector Herrera continues to be on the radar of Liverpool.

Liverpool are preparing to go back for their summer target Hector Herrera when the transfer window reopens in January. The Reds were keeping close tabs on the player during the summer transfer window but somehow the deal didn’t happen. Instead, they secured a move for Newcastle United midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum. And now Jurgen Klopp has again rejuvenated his interest in the midfielder.

A youth graduate of Mexican Side Pachuca, Herrera started his senior career for them at the age of 20. He put in three years at the club before he moved to FC Porto in June 2013 in a contract worth €8m. Also at the international level, he has 46 caps.

The midfielder played an important part in Mexico’s glory of Olympic Gold Medal in 2012 and was also an important part of the Mexico’s winning team at the 2015 Gold Cup. Herrera represented Mexico at World Cup in 2014. The player has scored 20 goals and further assisted 22 amazingly since joining Porto and from 2015-16 has been elected as the club captain. He was also Porto’s player of the year for 2014-15. One of the important players in Porto’s midfield, the midfielder played a pivotal role in the team’s performances last year.

A classic box-to-box midfielder, all-activity playing style makes him an impeccable fit for the Premier League, where the intensity of each game is high. His capacity is good at halting advances from the opposing players as well as in creating opportunities by distributing ball or shooting a goal. His all around attributes are certain to draw a lot of attention from European giants in the upcoming transfer window.

The Portuguese club are not willing to budge on Herrera’s valuation of £35 million as they are adamant to not let go the midfielder cheaply. The Mexican midfielder was likewise followed by Manchester United during the summer, and Jose Mourinho too may revive his enthusiasm for the player, as he is not happy with his midfield situation. Further, Napoli are additionally watching out to sign the player this window. It is quite sure that if Liverpool want to sign the player they have to face to face tough competition from various top clubs.
