ISL 2016: Kerala Blasters fans to welcome Materazzi with Zinedine Zidane masks


When we think about the name Marco Materazzi, We can nearly envision the exact memory that popped into our head at the say. Yes, you guessed it right. The World Cup fiasco with legendary Frenchman Zidane in the Final of 2006. Zidane was busy in trying to win the big game for France when he heard Marco bad mouthing his sister and the rest is history. The Frenchman was eventually given a red card for the offence while Materazzi went ahead to win the World Cup with Italy by scoring in the Penalty Shootout.

It’s not forgotten history, Although Materazzi was criticised for his on-field antics that time and now Kerala Blasters fans are going to give Materazzi a hilarious reminder of the headbutt in a different way in a match against Materazzi’s side Chennaiyin FC in the Indian Super League (ISL) on Saturday.

There is no love lost between the two South rivals in the ISL since Chennnaiyin FC was thrashed out by Kerala FC in the semi-finals of the first ever ISL. There were also a lot of disturbance when the two teams met this season in Chennai, prompting to one match suspension of Materazzi for uncalled behaviour against match officials and opponents.

The Italian World Cup champ can now expect a scorching reception when he touches base at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium as right around 35,000 fans will welcome him with Zinedine Zidane masks with them. Nearby fans as of now have made the masks and will offer it to each one of the individuals in the stadium who would want to wear it.

Speaking about the incident the World Cup winner was calm and relaxed. He said: “Did they spend lots of money for it? I would use that money for food instead.”

Chennaiyin have 10 points from eight matches and are placed seventh on the table, just two points less than fifth place Kerala Blasters.
