Analysis : Will Mesut Ozil leave Arsenal to join Manchester United?

In a recent shock news, there have been some problems between Mesut Ozil and Arsenal over a new contract and to make the best use of it, Manchester United are preparing a huge offer for the German, rumours suggest.

According to The Sun, the Old Trafford side will offer Ozil a salary of £250,000 a week, which is a lot more than the £200,000 a week Arsenal want to play. Moreover, Ozil has already played under current Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho when both were in Real Madrid and they were in good terms throughout the time. Naturally, speculations are high that the German midfielder will choose to leave the Emirates and join the rivals.

However, there are several reasons why the Manchester United fans should not be ecstatic right away.

To begin with, there is no sign of a spat between Arsene Wenger and Mesut Ozil. The midfielder has been performing at the top of his form and the coach is extremely happy with him. Last campaign, he recorded 6 goals and 19 assists in the Premier League, and this season, he has already netted 7 goals so far, including four important strikes in the Champions League. Naturally, there is hardly any chance that he is not happy at the club.

And this was reflected last week, when Ozil was talking to the Arsenal website, “I knew that if I moved to Arsenal, I would develop myself further, especially under the boss. I’m in a good way. The team really supports me, the manager gives me his trust and you see that I enjoy myself on the pitch.”

The above is certainly not the words of a person who wants to make a move away from the club.

On the other hand, Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho never had good relationships between them. Arsenal too, have always shared no love for Manchester United. Especially after that historic 8-2 thumping, the Gunners never ever wanted any good for the Red Devils. Quite evidently, even if Arsenal decide to sell Ozil, there is no chance that they will let their talisman go to United. So, if the contract talks between the 28 year old and his team fail, a Real Madrid, PSG or Barcelona fan can certainly hope, but not a United supporter.

The only reason one can think why Ozil may want to leave is the lack of accolades at Arsenal. The club have never won the coveted league title, neither have they crossed the quarter finals stages of the Champions League.

Historically, the second half of the season have always been marred by injury woes for Arsenal. This season, they have already started suffering due to injuries and lack of match fitness of many important players, including Theo Walcott, Olivier Giroud and most recently, two standout performers Hector Bellerin and Alexis Sanchez. All in all, if everything continues as it always did, there is little chance that Arsenal would manage to win anything this year. And that might add some fuel to this transfer speculations of the German star.

At the same time, it can also happen that this rumour is just a ploy by Manchester United, in particular Mourinho. It is true that there are contract problems between Ozil and Arsenal, and United might be making it harder for the rivals. With regards to the Wenger-Mourinho relation alluded to above, this alleged interest might be more about getting under the skins of the Arsenal boss, especially since the two teams would lock horns against each other in a week’s time.

Whatever might the truth be, it is certain that the upcoming blockbuster between Arsenal and Manchester United will be more interesting due to all these haywire, and all eyes will definitely be on Mesut Ozil.
