According to reports from Bild, Manchester United and Chelsea are all set to battle it out for highly-rated 19-year-old Bayer Leverkusen defender Benjamin Henrichs.
The report suggested the young German has gotten the consideration of the Red Devils as well as the Blues with his amazing exhibitions since the beginning of the season, but both the team would face competition from Barcelona and Manchester City.
The 19-year-old has started 14 matches this season having been included both in the Bundesliga as well as in the Champions League, and his amazing performances have led to the Premier League pair focusing on the full back. The impressive German has cemented his place at the right back position in Roger Schmidt’s team and has even been called up for Germany’s recent games against San Marino and Italy this month.
The Cologne-born player, who is a result of Bayer Leverkusen’s youth academy can play on either side of the defense or in midfield. He is having an amazing season for the Bundesliga side providing two assists till now.
Antonio Conte, the new Chelsea boss, has turned the club’s season after a change in the formation of the 3-4-3 system, and they need a wingback who can be their solution for long term. The young German, beyond doubt, perfectly fits the bill for Chelsea.
On the other hand, the Portuguese boss at Manchester United will also be taking a look at the chances to reinforce in similar positions, with Luke Shaw and Antonio Valencia both having troubles at the back.
There is no reported expense which would be considered as worthy by Bayer Leverkusen, and it is suspected that the Bundesliga outfit are probably not going to part with their energizing prospect right now.
Roger Schmidt’s side are having a mixed season this year as the Bundesliga side are currently 8th in the table with 16 points, 4 points adrift from top three. On the other hand, in the Champions League they are second in the group and just two points sort of leaders Monaco.
