Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin has admitted that his inclusion in Spain’s EURO squad was unexpected and he will simply cherish those moments for a long time.
The Arsenal defender has gone through a rapid progress in last couple of years, and due to his consistent performance with The Gunners, he caught the eye of Vicente Del Bosque and was named in the Spain squad for the EURO.
Bellerin’s inclusion was due to injury of Dani Carvajal, and he was surprised when he heard that he was selected for his country, but one thing for sure, it was a special moment for him. He was excited to share the same dressing room with his childhood idols, like Iker Casillas and Andres Iniesta.
Hector also remembers his childhood memories, when he was a kid and used to watch Spain games, and at that moment it was unthinkable for him to share dressing room with Iker Casillas, probably the best goalkeeper of Spanish history. So the moment of dream coming reality was such a huge experience for him.
“It was a dream come true. It’s not just him, there’s obviously Iniesta and other players who you look up to, especially when I was at Barcelona. He was one of the players who every single academy player used to look up to every single day,” Bellerin said.
The young Arsenal man also says that the time he spent with Iniesta and others at Spanish dressing room and the training ground has been the highlight of the year for him. The EURO was a learning curve for him, despite not being a regular in the starting lineup he must have got so much to learn from his idols.
Hector Bellerin has been an important player for Arsenal since his break into the first team, he is also regarded as one of the top young defenders of Europe. If he continues to perform like this, there is a massive chance that in near future he may get the chance to wear the Spanish shirt again.
