Arsenal legend Robert Pires admitted that he would love to be the Sporting Director of Arsenal in future.
When asked if he wanted a sporting director job, Pires replied: “Yes, that is my objective.”
“I don’t know what will happen in the future, but I need to talk about it with the owners and Arsene Wenger. I’d love this job, I love to talk with the players.” He has set his sights to be a sporting director because that will keep him in contact with football, especially Arsenal. The love for his former club is still vivid and Arsenal fans will be delighted to see their Bobby in the post.
Pires also made it clear that he has a good relation with Arsene Wenger, so that will help him to communicate, being a football legend himself he is also able to give advice to young players and work with the squad, which will just enhance the integrity of the team. He considered himself lucky as he still gets an opportunity to train with the first team players.
The French midfielder was high on praise about his former teammates at Arsenal. He stated that Thierry Henry, Ljunberg and Vieira have a bright future as managers, but he himself can’t be a manager right now because he doesn’t have any coaching license.
Robert Pires spent 6 years at Arsenal and won 2 Premier League titles, 3 FA Cups with the Gunners. He was a part of the immortal Invincibles side of the Arsenal that went a whole season unbeaten in season 2003-04. The Frenchman, 43 now was in Mumbai recently for a Arsenal Fan Club Programme and it was quite clear that the Gunners faithfuls still love him very much.
But the classy Frenchman still believes that in future he may well be at that post and at the moment he is the brand ambassador and he is enjoying his new role. “Maybe, one day. But at the moment I’m an ambassador for the club. This is a good job. There isn’t too much pressure. I’m enjoying my new life,” he added.
