Two days of persistent rain played spoilsport at the fourth edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). But as per weather forecast, the game should restart on Tuesday.
After Friday’s opener, the game between Comilla Victorians and Rajshahi Kings, and the other one between Khulna Titans and Rangpur Riders, had to be abandoned. Also, the match between Chittagong Vikings and Barisal Bulls was washed out on Saturday with each team sharing points on all the three occasions.
Not a single ball has been bowled in the tournament so far. But from Tuesday onwards, all matches will take place as per the schedule. Four of the first four games, which were scheduled to be played from November 4 to 6, have been reserved for the end of the tournament.
“We couldn’t even start BPL because of the rain. We set 11 days aside in the schedule … we can now make good use of it amid the unexpected rain. We will restart the games from Tuesday,” said BPL secretary Ismail Haider Mallick.
He said Khulna Titans and Rangpur Riders agreed to a rematch of their first day-match but Rajshahi Kings and Comilla Victorians were still undecided.
“The Governing Council has the authority to reschedule matches whenever necessary. But in case of a rematch, the relevant franchises and the BCB, everybody needs to be unanimous about the decision. Comilla and Rajshahi will give their decisions by 10 p.m. tonight (Sunday night),” he said.
He said the decision was taken at a meeting on Saturday which involved the BPL governing council, broadcasting and ticketing partners and representatives from the seven franchises and Bangladesh Cricket Board President Nazmul Hassan.
When exactly the matches will be replayed is still being worked out. The exact dates should be out soon, they confirmed. If needed, they will hold more than 2 rescheduled games in a day but the tournament will not be scrapped.
