Five most outstanding batting performances that went unnoticed in the cricket circuit

Women’s cricket has come a long way since the formation of International Women’s Cricket Council in the year 1958. Over the years several women’s cricketers have shown excellent class and temperament in their batting as well as in their bowling. Some of the most destructive innings have been played by various women’s cricketers which have never got as much mention as it deserved.

Here in this article we will be celebrating the top five outstanding batting performances by women cricketers.

1. Belinda Clarke:

She was the first woman as well as the first person in the history of ODI cricket to score a double century. She scored a brilliant 229 not out of just 155 balls comprising of 22 fours. Her double ton came against the Denmark women’s team in Mumbai on 16th December, 1997. The highlight of her innings was the way she rotated the strike and kept converting the ones into twos. Australia went on to score above 400 runs and eventually had gone on to win that match by a huge margin of runs.

2. Kiran Baluch:

This Pakistani woman went on to record the highest individual score by any woman in Test cricket. She compiled a brilliant 242 runs of 488 deliveries. She smashed 38 boundaries during her 584 minutes stay in the crease. Pakistan women’s team put up a mammoth score of 426/7 on the scoreboard in their first innings thanks to Kiran’s brilliant knock. The match ultimately resulted in a draw but Kiran’s innings is still being remembered as one of the grittiest knocks ever played by a woman cricketer.

3. Mithali Raj:

She is one of India’s best woman cricketers ever and she is also the only Indian woman to score a double century in Test cricket. She played a magnificent innings of 214 runs of 407 deliveries against the England women’s team at Taunton on 14th August, 2002. Mithali struck 19 fluent boundaries in her massive innings. Her double ton helped Indian women’s team reply strongly against a huge total of 329 made by the England women’s team in their first innings. The Indian team piled up 467 runs in their first innings and successfully drew that Test match.

4. Suzie Bates:

She is the most destructive bats-woman in the history of women’s cricket. Bates from New Zealand proved why she is so destructive in an ODI match when she played against the Pakistan women’s cricket team in the year 2009. She smashed 168 runs of just 105 deliveries consisting of 19 fours and 6 sixes. New Zealand reached a gigantic total of 373/7 in their allotted 50 overs and ultimately went on to win that match by a massive margin of 223 runs. It is still one of the most destructive knocks played by any women’s cricketer.

5. Sarah Taylor:

The English wicket-keeper Sarah Taylor is one of the finest opening players in ODI cricket. On 3rd February, 2013 she smashed a brilliant century against the Sri Lankan women’s cricket team and that innings of her is still believed to be one of the finest knocks ever played by a women’s cricketer. Sarah played 137 balls for her 171 runs and her innings included 18 boundaries and 2 huge hits. England made 368/8 in their 50 overs and that proved a little too much for the Sri Lankan women’s team who were bundled out for a paltry 159 runs in just 40 overs. It is still the 3rd highest score by any women’s cricketer in ODI cricket.
