The winter transfer window is about to open within hours. Several Premier League sides are already lining up bids for their target with Chelsea being one of them more likely to spend high in January.
Few are going to spend to survive relegation scare. Bournemouth, Newcastle United, Aston Villa, Sunderland, Norwich city belong to this category. On the other hand, teams like Arsenal and Manchester City are eyeing for the title, so they will spend to increase their squad depth and sort out deficiencies to overcome any kind of hindrance in their title race. Though Leicester City have surprised us so far, winning the title is not practically possible for them. A top four finish is a realistic target for Leicester right now. Tottenham Hotspur, Leicester, Liverpool, Everton, Manchester United are expected to bolster their squad for a top four finish.
Chelsea are currently in a tricky situation. The defending champions are in 14th position with 20 points, only three points above the relegation zone. A top four finish is next to impossible for them on the basis of current scenario. Top six finish is required to play in Europa League, so their objective of the season should be a top six finish.
Surprisingly, the same players who led them to win the prestigious Premier League trophy last season, are badly out of form this season. They increased their squad depth by bringing Radamel Falcao, Baba Rahman, Asmir Begovic and Pedro along with sporadic signings like Papy Djilobodji and Kenedy. Though they missed out on John Stones of Everton as they rejected Chelsea’s £30 million bid for the English defender this summer.
Since things have went horribly wrong for Chelsea from the very first day of the season, they will desperately look for reinforcements to overcome their deficiencies. It is expected that Chelsea will approach for John Stones once again with a new £35 m bid. Every man has his price. The amount might lure Everton to sell him to Guus Hiddink’s side this time.
Alex Teixeira is another name who has been linked with Chelsea for quite some time now. The Brazilian attacking midfielder currently plays for Ukranian side Shakhtar Donetsk and is aware of Chelsea’s interest. He has personally stated that he is looking forward to it and a bid around £20 m is expected to be enough to secure his service.
The rise of Jamie Vardy is a fairy tale and the tale might continue as Chelsea are preparing a £20 million bid for the current top scorer of Premier League. Though Leicester are reluctant to sell Vardy and Mahrez, a bid of £20 million might lure them to sell him to the London club. Chelsea are lacking a prolific goal scorer as Diego Costa is out of form and has been inconsistent this year. Jamie Vardy might be the solution.
