Mesut Ozil, the man in form of his life, chose to reveal some of his important moments when interviewed by The Times.
The German International is now leading the Premier League assists chart with 13, six more than any other player on the division. With more than half a season to go, in this rate Ozil will surely break Club legend Thierry Henry’s Premier League record of 20 assists.
Ozil’s honest and unselfish nature of play has been lauded by Pundits over last few years. The former Bremen midfielder wants to give credits to his strong, principled parents for the values that get reflected in his game.
Zinedine Zidane has always been his idol. The one quality of Zidane he tries to bring in for Arsenal is the ability to decide a game. He does not believe in showboating, rather he is inclined to do tricks to play a clever game.
I always admired [Zinedine] Zidane. He didn’t do tricks for the sake of it. He never wanted to show off. He just played a clever game. He’s the player who decides games. I watched his technique and tried to do that in my game, and a lot of times it worked.
Jose Mourinho left Real Madrid in the same season Ozil left the Blancos to join the Gunners. The 2014 World Cup winner is an admirer of his ex-boss Jose Mourinho and he opines that the Portugese will bring success wherever he goes now.
I’m surprised by what happened with Jose. He’s a great manager. I believe that any club he goes to now he will be successful again.
Why did he leave Real Madrid to join Arsenal? In an answer to this question, Ozil named Wenger as the main reason behind his £42.5 million transfer. The midfield magician is a firm in Wenger’s philosophy and methods.
Arsene Wenger was definitely the main reason I signed here. He’s a great football man. He always qualifies for the Champions League knockouts as a team. We are really happy we have such a great manager.
It’s not the end of revelations made by Mesut Ozil and more interesting ones are yet to come. For this, stay tuned.
