Chelse have been suffering a lot this season. They are currently sitting at the 16th position in the Premier League table, only one point above the relegation season. Jose Mourinho’s future at Chelsea are under scrutiny at this moment. And the same goes with the Blues’ star-studded midfield, formed by Cesc Fabregas, Eden Hazard, Pedro and Oscar. These players have not been able to deliver as per their potential. Naturally, the club management may look out to some star midfielder and bring him in coming winter. In this regard, Real Madrid superstar James Rodriguez might be the perfect fit for the defending Premier League champions.
The Colombian has recently said that he is “unhappy with life” under current coach Rafael Benitez. According to Spanish publication Don Balon, James Rodriguez is prepared to leave the Santiago Bernabeu in near future. They also said that the footballer’s agent Jorge Mendes is already planning on a transfer to the Premier League. Along with Chelsea, Manchester City might also be interested in the talented midfielder.
Addressing the rift between Rodriguez and his coach, Ed Malyon of the Daily Mirror said that the relationship is “under the spotlight” at the moment. Malyon wrote:
There are a few different ways to read the ongoing situation between the €80 million man and his manager.
One is that James is a victim of [Florentino] Perez’s desperation to make Gareth Bale the centre-piece of this Real Madrid team. Much of Benitez’s task is to get the best out of the Welshman and, often that has seen Rodriguez left on the sidelines.
Another is that the 24-year-old reportedly returned to the club overweight (albeit supposedly just 2kg) and Benitez has been punishing him for it by leaving him out of the side and the relationship has since “broken”.
Chelsea will surely try to find a solution to their problems and James Rodriguez will be a perfect fit to the team. Eden Hazard was the talisman for the Blues last season. However, his form is terrible this year. Previously it was speculated that the Belgian may try to leave the club in the near future. Real Madrid legend Zinedine Zidane later also confirmed that the Galacticos would love to have Hazard in the club. With all the rumours spreading like wild fire, it seems that Real Madrid and Chelsea may eventually agree to a swap deal between Hazard and Rodriguez.
In addition to the James Rodriguez issue, tittle-tattles also suggest that Jose Mourinho may leave Stamford Bridge soon. One possibility is that he will take over Real Madrid after leaving Chelsea. Mourinho coached the Los Blancos for three years, before joining Chelsea in 2013. The Spanish giants have not been at their best under the tutelage of Rafael Benitez and he may well be shown the door. The Special One, however, poured cold water on the Real Madrid rumours, and said, “I imagine finishing my contract at Chelsea. After that, I imagine myself coaching any club.”
Amidst all these hearsay, Chelsea are going to take on Leicester City today. The Foxes will want to secure the top spot in the Premier League table with a win while a victory will take Chelsea to the 14th position.
